At 7 Star Lodges, we have always believed that the most memorable stays are personal. They are shaped around the people travelling, their interests, their pace and what they hope to experience while they are with us.

This week, we introduced our new 7 Star Lodges Experience Designer, giving guests an entirely new way to shape their stay before they arrive. The Experience Designer is a private, personalised space created for each guest. It brings together the experiences available during their stay and allows them to decide how involved they would like to be in creating their itinerary.

Some guests want to leave everything in our hands. Others have a few particular experiences they would love to include. And some prefer to plan their days in considerable detail. The Experience Designer has been built to accommodate all three.

Three Levels of Choice

The first decision is simply how involved you would like to be.

Level 1: Your Stay, Completely Taken Care Of

For guests who would rather leave the planning to us, the Experience Designer provides a simple way to tell our team what you would like from your stay. Perhaps relaxation is the priority, with a little wildlife and adventure mixed in. Perhaps the focus is entirely on wildlife and exploring the Lowveld. Or perhaps guests simply want to arrive with an open mind and allow the experience to unfold naturally.

Our Guest Experience Team will use this information to create the stay. Our guides and hosts understand the seasons, the weather, the wildlife and the changing rhythm of the bush. They know that a particular morning may be ideal for a game drive, while another afternoon may be better spent enjoying the scenery, fishing the Blyde or watching the sunset from one of our private viewpoints.

This approach gives our team the freedom to make those decisions on the guest's behalf and where possible, introduce unexpected experiences and special touches along the way. There is no additional charge for this personalised planning. It is simply part of the 7 Star Lodges experience.

Level 2: Tell Us What You Love — We'll Plan the Rest

The second option provides a little more involvement. Guests can browse the experiences available during their stay and select the things they would particularly like to do. These might include a Big Five game drive, a bush walk, fishing on the Blyde River, a visit to Jessica the Hippo, Elephant Moments, a special dinner or one of our sundowner experiences.

Once the guest has made their selections, our team takes over the planning.

We consider how the experiences fit together, the amount of time required, travel between locations and the natural rhythm of the day. We also consider the season, weather and current conditions in the bush.

The result is a personalised itinerary built around the guest's interests, without requiring them to spend their holiday managing a schedule.

Level 3: Control Freak

For guests who prefer to take a more hands-on approach, the Experience Designer becomes a detailed itinerary planner. Experiences can be dragged directly onto a visual timeline, allowing guests to choose the day and time they would like each experience to begin.

A guest might schedule an early morning Kruger game drive, followed by a relaxed afternoon at the lodge, fishing on the Blyde later in the day and sundowners at a favourite viewpoint before dinner. The entire stay can be viewed day by day, allowing guests to build an itinerary that reflects exactly how they would like to spend their time.

We have called this option Control Freak with a little humour, but the principle behind it is serious. For guests who enjoy planning and knowing exactly what their day will look like, we wanted to give them that level of control.

The Bush Still Has a Say

However much planning goes into a stay, the African bush will always have the final word.

Wildlife does not operate to a timetable. Weather can change quickly. Roads and conditions can affect travel times, and sometimes an unexpected sighting or opportunity is simply too good to ignore.

This is why every itinerary created through the Experience Designer is reviewed by our Guest Experience Team.

We check that the proposed schedule is practical, that experiences flow naturally and that the timings work with the realities of the environment. Where something needs to change, we will do our best to find an alternative. Where we see an opportunity to improve the experience, we will make a recommendation.

The technology provides the planning framework. Our people provide the knowledge and judgement.

Designing the Rhythm of a Stay

The Experience Designer is not simply about selecting activities. A memorable safari is about balance. An early morning game drive might be followed by a leisurely breakfast and several hours beside the pool. An afternoon exploring the bush might lead naturally into sundowners at Jurassic Rock. A full day in Kruger may be followed by a quiet evening and a private dinner at the suite.

Equally, there may be days when doing very little is exactly what is needed.

By understanding what guests want from their stay, our team can create an experience that feels considered rather than simply filling every available hour.

A Personal Experience from the Beginning

Every Experience Designer is created specifically for the individual guest and their stay.

It reflects their arrival and departure dates, the number of nights they are staying and the season in which they will be visiting. It then becomes a shared planning space between the guest and our Guest Experience Team.

Guests can make changes, add experiences and adjust their preferences as they develop their plans. For those who want complete freedom, the system provides that. For those who want structure, it provides that too. Most importantly, guests are never expected to navigate the planning process alone.

Technology Supporting Hospitality

The Experience Designer is an important step forward for 7 Star Lodges, but the purpose of the technology is not to replace personal service. It is designed to enhance it. Our team remains responsible for bringing the experience together, using local knowledge and years of experience to make sure that the plans created online translate into something that works beautifully in the real world.

Whether a guest chooses to leave everything to us or plans their stay down to the hour, they have the reassurance that an experienced team is reviewing the details and helping to make it happen.

Your Stay, Your Way

The new 7 Star Lodges Experience Designer gives guests something that has always been important to us: the freedom to experience Africa in their own way. There is no single formula for the perfect stay.

For some, it is a carefully planned itinerary filled with wildlife and adventure. For others, it is a few special experiences surrounded by plenty of time to relax. For many, it is the freedom to arrive without a plan and trust the people who know the bush best.

The Experience Designer accommodates all of these approaches.

You choose how much you want to plan. We bring the experience, the knowledge and the people to make it happen. And ultimately, that is what the 7 Star Lodges Experience Designer is about creating a stay that feels as individual as the guests who come to experience it.
