In May, the African tourism industry gathers in one place. Buyers, lodges, guides, tourism boards, conservation groups, and travel companies from across the continent all make their way to Durban for Africa's Travel Indaba 2026, one of the largest tourism trade events on the African calendar. This year’s event takes place from 11–14 May 2026 at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre.

For us, it feels less like a trade show and more like a conversation. An opportunity to meet the people shaping travel into Africa, to reconnect with old friends in the industry, and to share a different perspective on what safari can look like. At Oase, we’ve never tried to follow the traditional safari formula.
We are not built around rigid schedules, large guest numbers, or the idea that safari begins and ends with two game drives a day. Instead, we’ve always believed that the best experiences happen when guests are given space — space to slow down, to explore, and to experience the bush in a way that feels personal to them.
That philosophy naturally attracts a certain kind of traveler.Families wanting flexibility. Couples looking for privacy. Repeat safari guests wanting something less structured and more immersive.
Indaba gives us the opportunity to introduce that approach to more of the world.
Over the last few years, Oase has quietly continued to evolve.
New guest experiences, new spaces within the lodge, expanded wellness offerings, culinary projects, creative collaborations, and a growing focus on experiences beyond the vehicle have all become part of the way we approach hospitality.
Not louder. Just more considered. And while the safari industry often focuses on sightings and schedules, we’ve found ourselves increasingly focused on atmosphere, pace, service, and the feeling guests leave with when they return home.
That is the story we’ll be taking to Durban this year.
There is also something fitting about talking about wilderness beside the Indian Ocean.
Durban has always had a different energy to it — warm air, busy streets, salt in the air, people arriving from every direction. And for a few days in May, it becomes the meeting point for tourism across the continent.
We’re looking forward to being part of it.
If you’ll be attending Indaba 2026, we’d love to meet you.
